Exciting Finish To NIKE’s #WeRunJozi
October 7, 2012 by Just Curious News
Thousands of runners took part in Nike’s 2012 version of WE RUN series m that took place on Sunday, October 7th. The 20 000 athletes who entered all wore the official black / volt trim race-day tee as they crammed Katherine Street in Sandton waiting for the Mayor of Johannesburg, Councillor Parks Tau to push the start button.
Those of us who weren’t there felt the excitement through the #WeRunJozi tweets that filled our timelines, it was exciting to watch. The runner started off from Katherine Streent in Sandton and went into the heart of Alexandra, one of South Africa’s poorest townships.
The winners:
Men’s Category - Xolisa Tyali crossed the finish line with a time of 29:57″7
Women’s Category – Rutendo Nyahora (from Zimbabwe) finished in 35:24.00.
One of the runners, Anwar Jappie commented:
“Sport is the only platform which does not distinguish between culture and borders, and running being the most basic form of athletic expression has the power to bring communities together. The Nike WE RUN series aims to inspire and motivate the everyay athlete, making it possible to run in your own backyard.”
Nike celebrated the runners achievements by hosting a cool down session at Innesfree Park, while entertained by a star-studded line up of entertainment including DJ Mo Flava, J.R; Siyabonga Ngwekazi; comedian Mpho Popps and Mi CASA.

It was too hot! 9 o’clock is late for a race and the water points weren’t organised we wasted time there, I was annoyed with that! But running is always fun for me! #TeamFitness
