Lessons From The Social Networks

This created quite a storm on Twitter the other day… I missed it all but got these screen shots of the tweets sent to us.

I think as much as people tried to make this incident about Dineo Moeketsi, it really had nothing to do with her. It was her mom, Soweto TV Boss, KG’s tweets and it’s just sad how when “offenders ” have famous relatives, those famous ones will be the ones whose names are splashed on the tabloid covers. Yes KG is kinda famous but the only reason these tweets caused such a stir was because she’s famous Dineo’s mom.

Like the current case with Josta Dladla’s mom and the theft… see, I don’t even remember her name because all I saw was a huge picture of Josta in a Kaizer Chiefs jersey… his picture was more visible than the alleged thief’s picture because nje he’s mos the famous one and even that case is only getting publicity because Josta’s famous. Inzima this life we live in neh? And people still wanna be famous. *in my best Pearl Thusi voice*

Back to KG’s tweets:

Her original tweet was “F*ck I really don’t wanna drink anymore. I hate this feeling.”

I don’t see anything wrong with her original tweet, she is an adult, and contrary to what you , the youth of today think, ADULTS, your PARENTS are the ones who should be drinking and waking up with hangovers, not you. You should be hiding your drinking habits to the parents… that’s the African way. Bu ke ngoba we think we know better… Leen_Lek said what she said to KG, even though she honestly had no business bringing Dineo into that. With that said, KG’s reaction and response?? OMG! Just the kinda stuff that makes me go TJO and a perfect example of What Public Figures Should Not To Do On Twitter.

What followed was just uncontrollable.

I guess the lady saw that her tweets were wrong and deleted them and that in a way, I guess was an apology to those she might have offended. We learn and move on.

What lesson did the Social Networks teach you this part week?

My liberal 2cents-Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with KG’s tweets.her TL her rules. My conservative/traditional/african 10cents- truth be told nobody wants a mother that speaks/tweets like that.I’m actually embarrassed on her behalf coz akaziboni noba uwrongo.if anything KG sounds like the one that somkes snuff and drinks brandy while Dineo is asleep. KG Classy? Aowa lona…..she’s the rowdy type that drinks herself to a stupor,smokes and dates young boys. I know it’s her life and she can live it as she pleases and tweet whatever tickles her fancy. But the responses she gave those gals were unnecessary….she could’ve easily ignored them instead of going all ghetto on them.
And even though they were wrong, they saved her from more embarassment by not fighting with her on twitter.

So sleepy though, my boss has no idea what he is doing in life, I always purposely point out to him his errors via work wise. Yazi as much as they can say that organisations are moving towards knowledge based employees in regards to intellectual capital, my boss is the opposite shame. He proves this theory wrong.

@bumbum I know just what you mean,I just deleted mine today on BBM,he’s just not good for my system yet I find myself going there over and over again,its just not good for my sanity,I’m trying to cut ties with him,BBM is a start,thou I still have him on whatsapp!lol,but I can’t really cut all ties with him he still is my baby daddy we still need to communicate but we just not good together,we bring out the worst in each other! *sigh*

What I’ve learnt is that people on social networks have a need to be relevant eg on a blog site some claim to be VIPs (just because they’re regular) and look down on the plebs (the not so regulars aka silent bloggers). Another eg people on face book are seen to be ofarm Julia whereas on Twitter and Instagram people are seen as izkhokho ezaziyo. But such is life we live in a world where everything revolves around status (even if it senseless) just for control nje. As for KG… Decorum?!

The way @Occupation and @Sparrow just told the proper truths though?? ya, in my years of silent blogging I have also seen those people who think that coz they blog more often then they are VIPs. and on twitter, those with 1000 or more followers claiming to be twitter celebs (twelebs). Nothing annoys me more than people who seek relevance on virtual platforms. Get a life!!!!!!!!!
